Research Internships
CIDR places a particular emphasis in the development of students and young professionals. As a result, the Center offers a full-fledged internship program in order to allow students engaged in a social science degree program to participate in CIDR’s activities and contribute to its work. The CIDR Internships provide exposure to research for development through a hands-on learning experience in research - in the creation, dissemination and utilization of knowledge. Internship positions are distributed on a competitive basis and consideration will be given to the applicant’s major, school performance, overall skills and abilities as well as the interest in the issues of concern to CIDR.
The CIDR offers internships during two periods: January to June and July to December
Internships are for a minimum period of 3 months and a maximum period of six months. Interns must commit themselves for this period in order to be considered. As part of the selection process personal interviews may be conducted. Since this is a competitive process, selections from incoming application will be made in January and July for the next upcoming period. Thus, in January successful interns will be notified to begin their internship in July, while those notified in July will be expected to begin their internship the next January.
The intern will undertake a program of research on the topic submitted when competing for the internship position. Interns will be assigned a supervisor who will oversee the internship. Interns are provided with a workspace with a computer and internet access. Selected candidates will be expected to provide support to management and research staff in some of the following areas: synthesis of project outcomes; production of publications and dissemination materials or activities on research results; participation in team meetings; research tasks to locate, review and synthesize relevant material; preparation of state of the art reviews; preparation of correspondence, reports and presentations; assistance with the organization of meetings, workshops and seminars; preparation of minutes; updating and maintaining databases; and maintenance of the website; exchange with other institutions working on a broad range of issues related to programming.
Applicants should also at a minimum be in the third year of the bachelor degree. Furthermore, students should be computer literate and be able to write effectively and creatively. Knowledge of both English and French is a benefit although not essential. A nominal stipend which can assist in covering basic living expenses are provided. All interns are expected to secure their own accommodation and provide for their overall living costs.

Submit a Discussion Paper
CIDR publishes a Discussion Paper series to which you are invited to submit papers written, either as an affiliate to CIDR or if you wish to be present on the Web with your completed research paper. Articles undergo an internal refereeing process under the responsibility of the Research Director. Papers are submitted via cidr@cidrcam.org. You are welcome to suggest the name of a referee. The refereeing process is mostly informal and hopefully consists in an open discussion between the author and the referee. Final decisions are made by the Research Director on recommendation of the referee. Pdf files must include all fonts and should not require supplemental files for the figures. Your paper must be prepared in the style of a CIDR Discussion Paper. This style requires a page containing the title, abstract, keywords, classification, acknowledgements, introduction, objectives, materials and methods, results, discussion and policy recommendations. For the referencing style see the Journal of Economic Literature.
